Project at a glance

  • Company: Sample Roofing Co.
  • Location: Plano, Texas
  • Scope: Full tear-off and replacement, 34 squares, architectural shingles
  • Completed: 6 days
  • Score: 91 out of 100

The challenge

Hail had cracked shingles across every slope, and a leak at the chimney had rotted a section of decking. The homeowners were living in the house with two young kids, and more storms were in the forecast.

The solution

The crew tore off one slope at a time and dried in each section the same day. They replaced 14 sheets of rotted decking, rebuilt the chimney flashing with new step and counter flashing, added ice and water shield in the valleys, and balanced the attic ventilation with new ridge vents.

Judge’s note

Textbook flashing at the chimney and walls, and the during photos prove the decking repairs were done right before anything was covered up. The homeowner rated the crew 5 out of 5 and called out the daily cleanup.
