The challenge
A cramped galley kitchen was closed off from the dining room by a load-bearing wall, with old wiring and a range vented into the attic.
The solution
The team engineered a flush beam to remove the wall, rewired the kitchen to code, and ran the range hood vent outside. They added an island with seating, full-height cabinets set dead level, and a quartz top with seams placed away from the sink and cooktop.
Judge’s note
A real change in how the house works, not just new finishes. Cabinet reveals are even all the way around and the backsplash layout is centered on the hood. The homeowner said the crew kept a clean path to the rest of the house every day.
